Football Roundup: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos clinched a close win over the struggling New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to seal the ugly win.
Defensive Performance Seals Contest
Even with recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after giving up a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards during the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with just over five minutes left.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Attack
Despite their dismal offensive display, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to score a possible victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback struggled all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," Glenn stated after the contest.
