I cannot count on three full seasons at Man Utd - Amorim

Ruben Amorim

The Manchester United coach - here being consoled after May's European final loss - says he is pleased by the investor's long-term backing but emphasized that the future is unpredictable in the sport.

Manchester United head coach the Portuguese coach believes it's crucial the co-owner went public with his future vision - but says nothing is certain about the next day in soccer, much less three full years.

Through a conversation with a leading newspaper last week, the co-owner stated it might require the manager a three-year period to make a significant impact at Old Trafford.

Coming in a period when Amorim's future has been under scrutiny in the wake of a lengthy stretch of unsatisfactory outcomes, the words contributed to reducing certain present tensions.

Yet, discussing prior to the 100th meeting with historic adversaries the Reds at Anfield, the manager emphasized how what comes next is challenging to anticipate in football.

"It is really good to hear it but he tells me constantly, periodically with words following matches - but understand, I know and Ratcliffe understands, that the sport isn't that predictable," he commented.

"The most important thing is the next game. Even with owners, you cannot dictate the future in the sport."

CEO the club executive has acknowledged it has needed far longer for Amorim to adapt to the Premier League after his transfer from Sporting last November than anyone imagined.

Manchester United have achieved 10 successes in 34 league games with the Portuguese coach. They are yet to win consecutive league victories and have not ended a round of league games in the current term higher than ninth.

The dire statistics are testing faith in the manager among the Old Trafford faithful heading into a run of games the side has performed poorly in for the last couple of years.

The manager stated he does not feel the uncertainty inside the club at the club's Carrington training ground and is insistent nothing equals the stress he applies to the squad - and to some extent, he would rather Sir Jim to refrain from seeking to bring a sense of calm because he is concerned about the influence it may create on the squad.

"It's not just an item of conversation, I sense it daily," he stated. "It's truly positive to listen to it because it assists our supporters to grasp the management realize it needs some time.

"However simultaneously, I don't like it because it creates an impression that we have time to solve problems. I don't desire that feeling in our team.

"The pressure I apply to the team or upon myself is considerably larger [than that from outside]. In soccer, especially in big clubs, you must demonstrate your value every matchday."
